Hypnosis
Hypnosis Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q. What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is as old as civilisation itself, and has been practiced under a number of different labels. In 1958 it was officially recognised by the American Medical Association and is still highly respected to this day. Despite popular belief, hypnosis isn’t a state of deep sleep. It is about changing or reprogramming negative or unwanted beliefs, emotions and patterns of behaviour. Through deep relaxation, and enhanced awareness, you are able to sink into the subconscious mind and bypass the conscious or ‘thinking’ mind.
Hypnosis also calms the mind and body through mindful language that reinforces positive associations and experiences. This greatly reduces the negative thoughts, feelings and emotions that create blockages, stagnation, anxiety and fear.
Essentially, hypnosis is:
- The bypass of the critical factor in our thinking.
- The accepting of selective thinking, thoughts, concepts, new beliefs and ideas that are acceptable to you.
- Altering a person’s belief or reality through suggestion.
- It is a state of altered awareness during which our subconscious mind is more open and receptive to suggestions that are given.
- As the body relaxes, the analytical left-hand side of the brain is switched off, while the non-analytical right-hand side of the brain is activated.
- The activation of the subconscious mind, the instinctive and deeper part of our human consciousness.
Subconscious mind makes up ninety percent of our consciousness. It is responsible for our long term memory, emotions and feelings, developmental stages as well as, habit patterns, relationship patterns and addictions.A The Automatic nervous system, intuition, creativity and our feelings of connection and our imagination also arise from our subconscious mind.
The conscious mind only makes up ten percent of our overall consciousness. It is more analytical than the subconscious mind. It is responsible for our thinking, judgement, will-power and short-term memory.
So when you are wanting to successfully change a belief or a pattern, it has to come from within the deeper and more powerful part of us, the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is our feeling mind. Even though a person may think a certain way, they can’t change unless they feel in alignment with what they are thinking. Every single experience we have had gets stored in the subconscious mind and how we felt about it. It is like a data base or the store house.
Q. How does it feel to be hypnotized?
Each person is unique and different.
The majority of clients experience a deep sense of letting go and relaxation.
The feeling of inner confidence and self esteem grows. Leaving clients with the strength of their convictions and a commitment to real and significant change.
Q. When I am ‘under’ will I be asleep?
While ‘under’ hypnosis you will be aware of everything that is happening and being said the whole time. You will feel so deeply relaxed. The more you relax, the more you let go. Entering into the subconscious mind where you will gain access to your personal power. Once empowered, you will feel more centred, focused, at peace and aligned to your personal goals.
Q. Will I remember everything afterwards?
That depends how deep in hypnosis you are, but generally most people do remember either everything or certain parts of the experience. You will find that suggestions which have been given to you in hypnosis will resurface in your conscious, thinking mind after your hypnosis session and these will be the thoughts that produce changes in your behaviour or way of thinking and feeling.
Q. Are there any side effects from hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural deep state of connection. You will feel relaxed and happier. The only side effects are positive ones.
